The Balrog Blade is a type of sword in Diablo II, it is the elite version of the Giant Sword.
Name Origin[]
The Balrog Blade derives its origins from the powerful Balrogs from the Burning Hells. They are huge and powerful demonic blades which are an exemplification of the brute power shown by the Megademons. Very sharp edges and a long, serrated cutting edge are the key features of this powerful sword.
It can be said that the Balrog Blade is one of the swords wielded by them that can be seen when they fight the player. It is known that there are many varieties of these great swords, which may all be Balrog Blades, but this type may be the only one that is wieldable by the player, the others being very demonic and unwieldy to equip.
It may also be noted that while Balrogs use these huge blades single-handedly, the player character (if not a Barbarian) requires two hands to use it. This shows the extraordinary strength that the Balrogs possess.
