Summons an ice storm to rain cold death onto your enemies.
Damage Type: Cold
Synergies: Ice Bolt, Ice Blast, Glacial Spike, Frost Nova
This is the most effective offensive spell that this discipline has to offer. With the invocation of this spell, entire hordes of enemies are left chilled or dead, drowned in a hail of ice. Wretched survivors of this wintry storm can do little but crawl and lament their fallen kin before they, too, succumb to the cold.
- Gives synergy to:
- Ice Bolt: +15% Cold damage per level
- Frost Nova: +10% Cold damage per level
- Ice Blast: +8% Cold damage per level
- Glacial Spike: +3% Freeze length per level
- Receives synergy from:
- Ice Bolt: +5% Cold damage per level
- Ice Blast: +5% Cold damage per level
- Glacial Spike: +5% Cold damage per level
By far the most offensively powerful Cold Spell, Blizzard deals large amounts of damage over a rather large area of effect, and is therefore chosen as the staple skill for builds such as the Blizzard Sorceress. Enemies reached may be chilled in addition to damage.
Even though it is extremely powerful (especially with synergies), Blizzard does have some drawbacks. For one, although it can stack on top of itself to deal major damage, it has a considerable cooldown that stops it from being cast in quick succession; it is therefore important to have proper aim with Blizzard, which sometimes may be difficult as the shards of ice are sometimes difficult to gauge in position.
Also, Blizzard deals its damage over a period of 4 seconds. Some enemies, if they're quick enough, can dodge Blizzard altogether, although they will most likely suffer at least one hit. Moreover, the damage of Blizzard does not start immediately, but with a brief delay.
Both Blizzard and Frozen Orb are effective crowd control spells. It is simply their methods of effect that differ, Blizzard being a traditional AoE spell, Frozen Orb a projectile.
