Every corpse created as a result of a violent death carries with it the anguish of its final moments. With this spell the Necromancer is able to call upon those energies and focus them into a single violent force. This force then expels itself from the carcass with such power that it causes a dramatic explosion.

Corpse Explosion is one of the best direct damage skills at the Necromancer's disposal. It deals massive splash damage and scales up very well with Nightmare and Hell difficulties, as its damage is based on the monster's base Life before death (but does not increase with skill level).
Once dubbed "The Best Skill of All Time" by Blizzard Employees, Corpse Explosion is great for clearing out crowds of monsters very quickly. All that's needed to destroy large groups monsters is a body, and to lead that group of monsters near it. Explode the corpse to create new corpses, then continue to spam Corpse Explosion until there is nothing left. Minions and Bone Spells can help in creating an initial corpse to use. As more points are put into Corpse Explosion its radius increases.
Unlike most spells, corpse explosion does 50% Physical damage and 50% Fire damage. Monsters that are resistant to Fire or Physical take less damage, but very few monsters, even on Hell, are immune to both Physical and Fire.
Nihlathak uses this spell against players in combat, making him an extremely dangerous enemy on higher difficulties.
