Crown of Ages is a unique Corona. Besides having some of the largest boosts to defensive stats in the game on a single item, Crown of Ages also allows for up to 2 Sockets. When the helmet has two Sockets and other high-rolled modifiers, it can be quite valuable.
Crown of Ages is often used by Barbarians, Paladins, and sometimes Assassins in PvP for its massive Damage Reduction. When socketed with two Ber Runes, this helmet can help a player reach up to 31% damage reduction.
This helmet has very little use in PvM however. Many melee fighters tend to prefer Guillaume's Face for the added Crushing Blow, since +skills does not benefit melee characters nearly as much as it does casters, and damage reduction is unnecessary. Its high strength-requirement also takes away many stat points that may otherwise be placed into vitality, which is an unseen consequence to using Crown of Ages. All Resistances is one of the easiest modifiers to make up via sockets and charms, so helmets that offer other bonuses tend to be better for melee fighters.
