Dungeon randomization is one of the features of Diablo II. Instead of playing in the same world-layout over and over again, Diablo II generates random maps of areas, making every new game 'unique', in a way. Though the layout of the areas might differ, they still 'connect' in the same way. For instance: the Cold Plains might look different on different but it still connects the Blood Moor with the Burial Grounds and the Stony Field.
Although many dungeons and areas have random layouts, some areas will always be the same. Here are some (not all) of the areas with the same layout:
- Caves Level 2 (Cold Plains)
- The Underground Passage Level 2
- Forgotten Tower Level 5 (actually 2 variations)
- The Hole Level 2
- The Pit Level 2
- Inner Cloister
- Catacombs Level 4
- Valley of Snakes
- Claw Viper Temple Level 2
- Some levels of the Palace
- Duriel's lair
- Sewers (Act III) Level 2
- Kurast Causeway
- Durance of Hate level 3
- The Chaos Sanctuary (last part)
- Nihlathak's Temple
- Arreat Summit
- Throne of Destruction
- The Worldstone Chamber
