The Warden, Head Jailer of King Leoric, is a horrific hulking ghoul still lumbering across The Cursed Hold. He once was the head jailkeeper for King Leoric, and killed many prisoners being held there.
Biography[]
- Queen Asylla(src)
The Warden was Leoric's executioner during the Darkening of Tristram. He imprisoned and executed numerous innocents in the dungeons below Leoric's Manor.[1] He, Leoric, and Lazarus, discussed the fate of Queen Asylla.[2] Like numerous other prisoners under his watch, she too was executed. So horrific were the actions that the spirits of Asylla and the other innocents were tethered to the dungeons, unable to move on.
Two decades later, the Warden was still present in the hold beneath Leoric's Manor, as an undead ghoul. He was stirred to action by The Nephalem, who had released the spirits of his victims. The Warden didn't take kindly to this, but was killed by The Nephalem. The Chosen speculated that the Warden's spirit had remained here because he had never been able to fully accept what he had done to the prisoners.[1]
In-game[]
The Warden appears in "The Imprisoned Angel" in Act I of Diablo III. After completing the task of Queen Asylla, the Warden will appear in the center of the prison with his ghoul minions. After killing the Warden, one can gain passage to the torture areas of the castle.
He counts as an undead Super Unique enemy, and has Jailer, Desecrator and Molten monster affixes, as well as triple fireball ranged attack.
In Adventure Mode, one can access the Cursed Hold from both sides (Halls of Agony level 2 and Highlands Passage, or Halls of Agony level 3) in order to kill him faster should the Warden be nominated a target for the bounty.
