Bog Larvae

Bog Larvae

Bog Larva, also called Ravenous Larva, or Maggot, is a type of monster in Diablo Immortal and Diablo III.

Lore[]

Bog larvae are the infant stage of a Maggot Brood. They hatch from tiny eggs laid in water usually a pool. A person who drinks water infested with the eggs contract the plague known as Green Death.[1]

For most of their lives, they cling to their parents as parasites.[2] If for any reason they are not able to do so, they can also live independently. They are voracious flesh eaters, and normally feed on corpses. Because of this, it is common for graves in the swamplands to be infested with maggots.[3]

Variants[]

Maggot have adapted to live in different habitats.

  • Frozen Maggots live in tundra climates.
  • Volatile Maggots can be found in the Burning Hells.

In-game[]

Maggots appear as beast enemies. They are normally encountered as minions of Maggot Broods, but can also be seen independently.

Diablo Immortal[]

Maggots can be found in the Northern Wetlands of Bilefen and the Abandoned Prison of Stormpoint.

Frozen Maggots appear around the Everfrost Lake of Frozen Tundra.

Volatile Maggots appear in the Molten Egress of the Realm of Damnation. They normally hide inside pools of lava, and swarm the player whenever they approach. Once near the player, they explode after a short delay. They are also seen in the Pit of Anguish, where they are used as grenades by Demon Troopers.

Diablo III[]

Maggots can be found in some caves in Greyhollow Island and the Ruins of Sescheron in Act III. They explode in a short-ranged blast of poison damage when killed, with a very brief delay.

In some caves, Maggots can be found living on their own. They can hide on the ceiling to drop on unwary heroes from above.

In Ruins of Sescheron, one may encounter Frozen Maggots, which often hide in Yeti corpses. These are larger than their Act V counterparts, and deal more damage. They can explode voluntarily, if needed, dealing cold damage in wider radius.
