These rickety-looking collections of sharpened sticks function as pens for the Barbarian Warriors your character must rescue to complete the second quest in Act V.
While it is presumably just as possible that the Barbarians could punch the door open as easily as you can, they are unequipped for battle and surrounded by demons. As such, they wait for you to free them and open a Town Portal.
