"The creatures that lay at my feet are no match for Renit the Dark Stalker. I hunt for greater prey, the hellspawn hordes that have freshly slain my comrades! I will not rest until fallen warriors are avenged!"

- Renit(src)

Renit the Dark Stalker was a Barbarian warrior.

Biography[]

When the Army of Destruction invaded the Northern Steppes, Renit and his fellow Barbarians met the demons in battle at Daken-Shar. The demons won the battle, and Renit was the sole survivor. Surrounded by the bodies of the fallen, he swore an oath that the demons would not win the war.

Setting out on horseback, he heard a woman scream from inside a ruined fortress. Concluding that the demons were near, he rode up and burst in, saving the woman from spiders. He was irritated that there were no demons present, but was calmed down by the woman. She explained that her name was Cairo, and that the demons had slaughtered her breathren. Among them was her master, and being a Necromancer apprentice, she had not the power to avenge them. However, she told Renit of an artifact called the Hand of Naz, which could summon a spectral army to do the wielder's bidding. With that army to command, they could destroy their common enemy.

Renit agreed to work with her, and they travelled to the castle of Kanemith; supposedly the last resting place of the gauntlet in a tomb beneath the castle. They found it on the hand of a buried king in a sarcophagus, but when Renit took it, undead burst out of the ground. Renit fled with the gauntlet, leaving Cairo to die.

Shortly afterwards, Renit faced the demons who'd killed his comrades. Using the gauntlet's power, he summonsed the spectral army, which easily dispatced them. However, the ghost of the king in the tomb did not return to the gauntlet, despite Renit's orders, and killed him. However, he was revived by Cairo via a resurrection spell, who explained that she was no mere apprentice, but rather a master Necromancer. That her brethren were slain by demons when she was a little girl, and that she'd played the helpless victim in the fortress to lure Renit in. Suspecting that there was a price to use the gauntlet, she'd let Renit use the gauntlet as a patsy to destroy the demons, and had let him pay the price, as whoever used the gauntlet was fated to be added to the army's ranks.

Cairo destroyed the gauntlet but took the real prize; the Jewel of Naz. She then rode off, telling Renit that they would not meet again.[1]
