Golem Mastery is a Necromancer Skill in Diablo II which is part of the Necromancer's Summoning Spells skill tree. It improves the Necromancer's Golems.

LoreEdit

Developing this skill permits the Necromancer to divert more of his will and energies into his artificial creations. This allows the Necromancer to create more robust golems and control them with greater finesse.

General InformationEdit

SynergiesEdit

  • Gives synergy to:
Clay Golem: +20 Attack rating per level
Blood Golem: +20 Attack rating per level
Iron Golem: +20 Attack rating per level
Fire Golem: +20 Attack rating per level
  • Receives synergy from: None

Golem Mastery is a passive skill that increases the life and movement speed of all Golems that a Necromancer can summon. As a passive skill, its benefits are granted persistently and do not need be activated by use of the skill. It also grants a small bonus to all Golems' attack rating, but, notably, not their damage.

Although investing a lot of skill points into Golem Mastery grants the ability to produce extremely durable Golems, most Golems will still suffer from their greatest weakness: their inability to cause high damage, especially later in the game. In addition, while the speed bonus is welcome, it has very noticeable diminishing returns and is usually not very necessary; Golems tend to keep up well and have few problems reaching enemies in time. A Necromancer who uses items with bonuses to skill levels may find it more prudent to invest a single point in Golem Mastery and spend other skill points elsewhere.

The extra life that each level of Golem Mastery grants Golems amounts to 20% of their base life:

  • Clay Golem: 20 bonus life per level of Golem Mastery
  • Blood Golem: 40 bonus life per level of Golem Mastery
  • Iron Golem: 60 bonus life per level of Golem Mastery
  • Fire Golem: 65 bonus life per level of Golem Mastery

Even if a Golem is frequently destroyed in combat, a Necromancer should first consider that simply replacing it is often less cumbersome than investing more points in Golem Mastery. Iron Golems are an obvious exception to this rule; a Necromancer who uses Iron Golems created from expensive items may choose to spend more points in Golem Mastery (as well as Summon Resist) to keep them worthwhile.
