It is a fatal assumption that the Barbarian warrior is slow and ponderous. His great bulk belies a very agile individual. A lifetime of patrolling the vast plains of his native soil, where it is often necessary to cover great distances in very little time, has empowered the Barbarian warriors with the ability to walk and run at surprising rates of speed.
Increased Speed is a passive skill of the Barbarian, thus constantly in effect once learned. These types of skills do not use mana. Increased Speed skill makes the Barbarian faster, when walking or running. Augmenting this skill also increases the speed percentage gained by the Barbarian. With every level earned, the speed bonus is smaller, so a good option to consider is to increase this skill no more than two or three levels, relying more on (if at all) the bonuses given by special items such as Barbarian Helms or Unique Items. It may be better, however, to just leave the skill alone and let the skill bonus do the work; you must put a hard earned point into Increased Stamina if you wish to place hard points in Increased Speed, and that can be hazardous to the Barbarian's efficiency later on, when Vitality is too high for Stamina to really be an issue, with or without bonuses.
Having an increased walking/run speed has major implications on your hero. If you can walk faster, you can outwalk slower enemies, conserving Stamina reserves for other situations. Likewise, if you can run faster, you can catch up to/run from faster enemies.
