Inferno is a Fire spell in Diablo I.
Inferno creates a stream of fire, erupting in up to 3 squares in front of the caster, dealing splash damage. Damage increases at higher Character Level, but does not increase from Spell Levels.
- Total Damage Calculation: 3 x [(Random 1-Character Level) + (Random 0-2)] + 6
- Duration: 1, 1.25 and 1.50 seconds on three tiles (therefore damage is dealt more slowly the farther monster is from the hero)
Inferno is not a single strike projective spell, but instead attempts to hit enemies every 0.05 seconds in a straight line. This happens at three places in the fire: near, middle and far away from the caster, and happens 20, 25 and 30 times in each place respectively.
Heroes are not the only ones who can use this spell; the Balrogs located in late Caves and Hell can also use Inferno. They tend to cast it in melee combat as well as from distance.
Inferno sacrifices the mobility of a Firebolt for pure damaging power. Rather than attempting to control the path and cohesiveness of a single bolt, the caster conjures forth an individual, focused stream of flame. Although it dissipates beyond more than a few paces, with a greater understanding of the forces at work the stream of fire can not only be extended a significant amount, but also can be maintained for a few moments more. The heat of an Inferno is more intense than that of a Firebolt as more Mana is being converted into essential energy.
