Kael Rills (also known as The Wounded Townsman) appears in the original Diablo game when The Butcher Quest is available. With his dying words, he explains how Archbishop Lazarus led him and several other townsfolk on the abortive attempt to rescue the Prince, and asks the hero to kill a mighty demon called The Butcher. He then dies (and becomes The Slain Townsman) and his body remains near the Cathedral until The Butcher is killed.
Note: In the first Diablo game, the wounded townsman was unnamed. The name Kael Rills is given to him in the Diablo D&D product Diablo II: The Awakening.
- "Please, listen to me. The archbishop Lazarus, he led us down here to find the lost prince. The bastard led us into a trap! Now everyone is dead... Killed by a demon he called The Butcher. Avenge us! Find this butcher and slay him so that our souls may finally rest..."
From the pre-released demo version of the gameEdit
- "Please help....! I barely escaped from....... The Butcher...! He killed.... My wife... My children! I beg of you...... In the name of God......... Avenge them........."
