A good offensive sword, Kinemil's Awl is most noted for its high added Fire damage. Although less effective against enemies immune to fire, it can deal good amounts of damage to those that aren't.
Kinemil's Awl also gives a substantial boost to Attack Rating. Generally speaking, this is good for any physical fighter, especially when combined with other equipment that gives chance of Crushing Blow or Open Wounds, or mana and life leech.
However, Kinemil's Awl, along with the Zakarum Shield, Dragonscale, are primarily intended for use for Paladins that specialize in the aura Holy Fire. The sword would certainly empower a Paladin in line of the Fire element, enchanting his attacks with fire and making his fiery aura most powerful.
The Paladin-specific tactic does have several problems in later game though. Many enemies in Hell mode are immune to fire, making Holy Fire ineffective. Also, Kinemil's Awl is a two-handed sword. Since Paladins, unlike Barbarians, cannot wield two-handed swords with one hand, they would be deprived of a shield. Paladins are highly connected to shield use, and although some Paladins get by without shields, most still prefer to have them.
