Leah

From Diablo Wiki

Leah as seen in the official trailer.

Leah is a character in Diablo III. Her role and other informations are all unknown at this point.

[edit] Introduction

Leah was first seen in the teaser trailer, her voice narrating in the trailer and her face briefly shown. The Barbarian tells Deckard Cain that Leah worries for him in the gameplay trailer. Leah was confirmed as her name when the wallpaper bearing her face was introduced under the name "Leah" in the official site of Diablo III of Blizzard

It seems that Leah gave the player the quest to rescue Deckard Cain in the catacombs below the old Tristram Cathedral.

[edit] Role in the story

It appears that she was present in the Cathedral with Deckard Cain when the meteor crashed into it. Cain was probably searching for reasons as to why the predicted invasion of Sanctuary by the Burning Hell's never occurred, while Leah had walked outside. She is seen rushing into the Cathedral when she sees the meteor (probably to warn Cain), only to narrowly avoid death under the meteor (as revealed by the artworks). The meteor crashes down into several stories below the Cathedral, and Leah is seen looking into the hole (also in both the artwork and the trailer). This meteor must have trapped Cain and the soldiers in the dungeon, leading to the player to receive a quest to rescue them.

She is heard in the trailer saying that she has "seen what the Darkness hides," which could be what she saw in the hole on the Cathedral. Also, she gasps and mutters "I don't think it's safe here," in a background resembling the Cathedral, which would have been moments before the meteor crashes.

Another speculation is that the entire trailer was a vision to Leah, making her a seer.

[edit] Family

There is an interesting passage in the Gnarled Walkers lore entry in the official page, concerning the village of Wortham:

"I likewise found it odd that there seemed to be only elderly people in the village, with the exception of one beautiful young woman whose father was quite insistent I keep my distance from her. Though he was rude on this point, I found him to be a rather sociable sort once convinced I was not interested in his daughter. He introduced himself as Pablo DeSoto."

There is speculation going about that Leah, the girl from the cinematic trailer, is actually the daughter of Pablo DeSoto mentioned in the lore. Other speculations include Leah being the new narrator, Cain's daughter or apprentice.

Be as it may, it is clear that there is some significance to the appearance on the cinematic trailer, as these take a substantial amount of time to prepare. Any random NPCs may be dropped out of the game as the development progresses but Leah was important enough to be put in the trailer which they had to begin working on months before the game announcement.
