"Got to go, Marta. More of those creatures need killing on the lower walls."
"I’m sure I heard it was the upper walls, dear."
"That’s what I said! Look, there’s a chance I won’t come back this time."
"You’ve been saying that for forty-four years. Go on, now."

- Rondal and Marta(src)

Marta was the wife of Rondal. They met (and possibly married) in 1241. Marta noted that Rondal often stated that he might not come back from the field, despite beating the odds every time.[1] At some point, Marta gifted Rondal with a locket.[2]

In 1255, Marta was kidnapped by Barbarians in an ambush, but they returned her two hours later with an apology. Marta later commented that she simply reasoned them. Years on, Garma still sent her hides by way of apology.[3]

In 1285, they were at Bastion's Keep when it came under siege by Azmodan. As per usual, Rondal warned his wife that he might not return from the field. Marta commented that he'd been saying that for 44 years.[1] They were still in the keep's stronghold when demons emerged from below. Fortunately, they were repelled by The Nephalem. Rondal joked that he'd ask if Marta was alright, but that he knew better.[3]

The Nephalem was able to drive the demons from the keep itself, though the siege continued. Rondal commented that things were looking up. He was reluctant to take too much credit, as he pointed out there were other soldiers, but Marta stated that she hadn't noticed.[4] She stated that thanks to The Nephalem's efforts, he could get some rest (despite Rondal's protestations that he felt fine). When word reached them that The Nephalem had defeated Azmodan, they planned to leave the keep. This didn't come to pass however, as Adria turned on the keep's defenders, killing Rondal among numerous others. Marta was consumed by grief, and refused comfort from The Nephalem.[5]
