| Natural Resistance|
Class: Barbarian (Diablo II)
Required Level: 30
Skill Tree: Combat Masteries
Requires: Iron Skin
Increases resistances to Fire, Cold, Lightning and Poison damage.
Damage Type: Magic
In order to survive the unforgiving lands of the north, the people of the Barbarian tribes have developed hardy resistances to the common elements. Heat and cold alike are something they endure often. Since food is scarce while foraging, they have learned to consume species of plants that would slay normal men. Through additional training, a warrior can further fortify himself against these dangers, allowing him to better survive while traveling to unfamiliar lands and battling unknown foes.
Natural Resistance is the final Barbarian passive skill, making him more resistant against Fire, Cold, Lightning and Poison damage (but not Physical and not Magic). It is a very useful skill at higher difficulties, where better resistances are paramount.
The benefits from this skill suffers from diminishing returns per point, so putting just one point into it and taking advantage of skill-boosting equipment for a little more resistance may prove more efficient. The boost at low levels is much smaller than that provided by the Paladin's Salvation skill (which starts at 60% at level 1), but unlike Salvation, Natural Resistance provides a permanent bonus, and offers protection against Poison damage, which Salvation doesn't.
While Natural Resistance helps bolster resistances, it cannot be a complete substitute for equipment that boosts resistances due to its limitations. This is even more evident in the expansion, due to the increased penalties for Nightmare/Hell difficulty; if a Barbarian were to max out this skill in classic Diablo II, he would have +17% all resistances in Hell difficulty.
