Plate Mail is a piece of Body Armor in Diablo II. It is a piece of heavy armor, and a significant upgrade in terms of defense over most forms of lighter armor, though this comes at the cost of higher strength requirements, as well as a 10% penalty to stamina drain rate and movement speed.

  • "Plate mail" is a a Victorian name for a type of armor that did not exist in the form seen in-game. The historical equivalent would be a type of mail armour which could have metal plates attached onto the front and/or back. This type of armor is commonly called "plated mail" (as opposed to plate mail which implies a weaved construction of small plates). The construction seen here however is closer to either scale armour which was a construction of metal (or leather) scales sewed to a cloth backing, or lamellar armour which had the scales be tied to each other instead with cord.
