Rogue

The Rogue was the ranged attack class in Diablo 1, who is from the Sisters of the Sightless Eye. Her magic, strength and vitality were intermediate between the warrior and the sorcerer. However, her dexterity was much higher than that of the other two classes. She was the only character class who could use bows effectively, since other classes lacked the dexterity needed for higher bow damage and hit percentage and were innately slow at firing missiles. Her strength was mostly for using armor since her damage came from her dexterity. Items were often required to boost her strength so that she could equip the heaviest armor. Her magic was often used for Stone Curse and teleport. Stone Curse was particularly effective at keeping enemies at a distance during combat, while teleport was used as a means to escape. Unfortunately the rogues was not effective in team games, since allies could cause damage to one another. For example, if a warrior was attacking, then she would have to accurately target the monster to avoid hitting the warrior.

[edit] Skills and Equipment

In Diablo I the Rogue is the only character that receives a damage bonus from Dexterity. Her initial skill is Trap Disarm.

[edit] Diablo II

The Rogue appears as a hireling in Act 1 of Diablo II. She carries a bow (again with infinite arrows) and can cast the spells Fire Arrow and Ice Arrow. She can also use the skill Inner Sight to target foes more accurately. She can equip Bows and Armor: Body Armor and Helms

To be able to hire one of the rogues you must first complete the quest Sisters' Burial Grounds, given by Kashya. It involves killing Bloodraven, a rogue captain who was corrupted in the battle at Tristram and former friend of Kashya. Once you've completed the task Kashya will express her gratitude and lend you one of her rogues. Some believe that Bloodraven is actually the rogue hero in Diablo 1.

Note: Rogues are not Amazons, even if they are also proficient with bows. As such, rogues are unable to use Amazon-only bows nor crossbows.
