Rogue
From Diablo Wiki
The rogue was the ranged attack archer in Diablo 1, who is from the Sisters of the Sightless Eye. Her magic, strength and vitality were intermediate between the warrior and the sorcerer; however, her dexterity was much higher than other classes. She was the only character class who could use bows effectively, since other classes lacked the dexterity needed for higher bow damage and hit percentage and were innately slow at firing missiles. Her strength was mostly for using armor since her damage came from her dexterity. She needed items to boost her strength to wear the heaviest armor. Her magic was used for stone curse and teleport. With intermediate magic she used her magic to stone curse melee attackers so they couldn't reach her. Teleport was used to run away from attackers.
She was not effective in team games, since allies could hurt each other. For example, if a warrior was attacking, then she would have to accurately target the monster to avoid hitting the warrior.
Arrows were not a feature in Diablo 1, so bows had unlimited arrows.
Her skill was the ability to sense traps. Some chests/barrels/crypts were trapped, meaning after opening one an arrow came out of the wall at the player. Since these didn't hurt very much and it was a hassle to use her skill, her skill wasn't very useful.
[edit] Skills and Equipment
In the original Diablo I the Rogue is the only character that gets damage bonus from Dexterity, her initial skill is Trap Disarm.
[edit] Diablo II
The Rogue from the first Diablo possibly becomes Blood Raven in Diablo 2. The Rogue appears as a hireling in Act 1 of Diablo II. She carries a bow (again with infinite arrows) and can cast Fire Arrow or Ice Arrow spells, and can use the skill of Inner Sight to target foes more easily. She can equip Bows and Armor: Body Armor and Helms
To be able to hire one of the rogues you must first complete the quest Sisters' Burial Grounds, given by Kashya. It involves killing Bloodraven, a corrupted rogue captain in the battle at Tristram (the Rogue player-character from the first game) and former friend of Kashya. Once you've completed the task Kashya will express her gratitude and lend you one of her rogues.
Note: Rogues are not Amazons, even if they are also proficient with bows. As such, rogues are unable to use Amazon-only bows nor crossbows.
