Summon Dire Wolf is a Druid skill in Diablo II. It is a more powerful variant of Summon Spirit Wolf.

Lore[]

This blessing from Nature imparts to the Druid the ability to summon several great wolves. Though the wolf is already fierce in combat, its savagery becomes greatly inflamed as it consumes the corpses of fallen foes.

General Information[]

Synergies[]

Dire Wolves grant increased Life to other beasts.

Note that this skill takes actual skill levels for other Summon skills including all skill mods from eq, cries etc. into account; this is different to how most synergies work, since usually just blvl i.e. the raw skill points placed, without any mods, are used.

Dire Wolves are a clear replacement for the Spirit Wolves, with increased damage and the ability to consume dead bodies for even more power.

At Level 1, the Druid receives one Dire Wolf, which has 345 (216 * 160%) Health, and inflicts 8-13 points of damage with each bite. While only three may be summoned, they are much more durable than spirit wolves. Dire Wolves can be effective when paired with other Beasts and Heart of Wolverine. Oak Sage can be used instead, but seems to be less useful, as killed beasts can be quickly re-summoned.

Unlike Spirits and Vines, all Beasts can be summoned at the same time in Diablo II Resurrected as of Patch 2.4.

In-game "Max Life +%" value is wrong (as of at least D2R v2.7). The actual +Life% formula (straight from Skills.txt) is (par7 * lvl) + ln12 (par1 = 50, par2 = 15, par7 = 25), which means the exact value is 216 * (135 + 25 * lev)%; as a result, the value of the bonus for lvl 1 is +60%, not +50%. All the other values are skewed by those +10% as well (i.e. show +15% per level, when in reality the bonus is +25% per level). This is because, while the "Life: x" description uses correct (par7 * lvl) + ln12 calc, but the "Max Life +%" uses just ln12, completely ignoring the self-synergy bonus.

Internally (in Skills.txt, SkillDesc.txt etc.), this skill is known as "Summon Fenris".
