The Hunger is a short story featured in Heroes Rise, Darkness Falls. It was written by Erik Sabol, for Blizzard Entertainment's 2009 writing contest, achieving a runner-up position. It was published in the above anthology with editorial services by Cameron Dayton. It is described as "a gruesome, unflinching dissection of cowardice and sloth, a haunting parable and stark reminder that courage may be found in the unlikeliest of places."


The story centers on two characters. Rigley, a wagon driver, and Lidra, a woman who pays him to transport her over the deserts of Aranoch.
