Diablo III targeted for Q2 2012 release

Fandyllic February 10, 2012

Activision-Blizzard had a 2011 Q4 financials call that included an overview of what might be coming in 2012. GameSpy says that Activision-Blizzard's CEO, Bobby Kotick, thinks Diablo III will release sometime in Q2 of 2012 which is a positive suggestion.[1] This seems possible from the reduced change in the recent Beta releases. As someone who has been playing the Beta, it has gotten more stable and they are fixing bugs. I'm a little concerned with what appears to be the beginning of removal of features (most minor, like gold fetching companions), but if we're this close to a release (a matter of months), that kind of thing is to be expected.

Now if only Blizzard would open up more of the game beyond Act I.

  • Oh no some random guy on the internet says Diablo is dead to him. Blizzard, you hear that?! Start packing up your offices.

  • If it is released on the last day of the last month of Q2, that less than 5 months from now. I wonder how many other game developers/companies can't give a specific release date within such a short window--especially considering how long they've been working on it. Just too many red flags for me. Diablo is dead to me.

    • Release dates are unimportant. What really matters is the quality of the game.

I think it is a little foolish to be negative about a game before you have even seen it.

    • Any company can put a stake in the sand and say they must release on date X, but those companies generally put out crap. The beta is pretty cool, but it isn't going to make or break Activision-Blizzard. From seeing previews of Torchlight II, I'm not sure Diablo III is going to dominate its niche the way it used to.
